Ten stunning Bandcamp albums from 2011

During 2011 I’ve picked up quite a lot of new music from, a fantastic site for independent musicians to sell/promote/give away their music.  I’ve also got my own page there at, from where you can pick up my solo bass stuff, my album with the Tim Crahart Blues Band and my old rock monsters album by 3rd Day Rising.

Through Bandcamp (and Twitter) I’ve made some great new friends and met some astonishing musicians.  So here, in no particular order, are ten of my favourite recordings from 2011.  Many of these are Pay What You Want downloads, so you could potentially pick up a lot of new music here for next to nothing.

1.  ‘Travelling Time” by Everyman Of Parts. The long awaited solo album by a brilliant bassist, Andrew Sheron

2.  “11 Reasons Why 3 Is Greater Than Everything” by Steve Lawson. Speaking of brilliant bassists, Steve is the top of the tree.

3.  “Beautifully Undone” by Lobelia. Meanwhile Mrs Steve has released this gorgeous collection of cover versions of less-well known songs

4.  “Relic” by Matt Stevens. Matt’s albums get better and better, he came to play a gig for us this year, loved it.

5.  “If” by Alun Vaughan. a live set of improvised bass, showing what a talented bloke old Dr. Evil really is.

6.  “_ism” by Jeff Schmidt. dark ambience from bassist and ‘sound manipulator’ Jeff.

7.  “Baby Steps” by Rhys Anslow. The hairy one just managed to pip me to the post with the release of his solo album.

8.  “Disarm:Remixed” by She Makes War & Friends.  An collection of remixes of the original album, raising funds for the homeless shelter Crisis, why not get the original album too?

9.  “The Quiet In The Land” by Calamateur. Just found this one today, so looking forward to hearing it.  Previous releases have been wonderful.

10.  “The Knowledge Of Things To Come” by Simon Little. More chillingly beautiful solo tunes from the Divine Comedy/Duke Special bassist.

Please check out some of these amazing albums and start your 2012 off well.

Album launch day

As some of you will know I’ve been threatening to release an album of solo bass material for some ears, but never got round to it.  Well the long-awaited day has finally arrived!

I launched the album yesterday at

There are eight tracks for a total of about thirty five minutes. Most of the tracks are loop based improv with lots of layers and effects. There is one classical  piece arranged for two basses and two worship song arrangements.

It’s a Pay What You Want download, so you can even get it for free if you like.  If you decide it’s worth paying something for that would be appreciated and I will be donating 50% of the proceeds to Cancer Research UK.

There will also be a short run of CDs in a card wallet, these are priced at £5.00 plus P&P and if you order one of these I will donate £1.00 to the charity (CDs cost money to make).

If you do have a listen I’d love to hear from you with any feedback.

Meanwhile, have a great Christmas

More album news

I’m nearly there, honest! I’ve just finalised the album cover art and the liner notes.  The album title will be ‘Patches of Coloured Light’.  I need to do a spot more remixing on the final track and I’ll be ready to upload it at last.

There will be a short run of CDs, packaged in a card wallet.

The download will be a pay what you want affair, feel free to get it for free if you want, I would much rather people listen to it than force anyone to have to pay for it!

For any download sales I will be donating 50% of the paid price to Cancer Research UK.  Our band, the Tim Crahart Blues Band, recently took place in the Busking 4 Cancer appeal, we played a gig at the Islwyn Acoustic Guitar Club and raise just over £200 for the charity.

My album is respectfully dedicated to my very good friend Lucy Edwards, who passed away earlier this year, so I wanted to use the opportunity to hopefully raise a few quid for Cancer Research.

The CD release will sell at £5.00 and from those sales I will donate £1.00 to the charity (CDs cost money to print!)

Watch this space for release news.

Album artwork and track listing

Last week I finally finished the last track of my solo bass album.  Once Rhys had finished his I thought I’d better get on with it to be honest. I’ve still got a bit of remixing to do before launching it, but it should be available very soon via Bandcamp and there will be a small run of CDs.

The album title, after much deliberation, will be ‘Patches Of Coloured Light’.

As a taster here is the track listing:

Ymddiheuro Am Yr Oedi

Song For Lucy

Le Petit Rien

Morning Has Broken

Twyn Du

Nothing But The Blood

The cover art is a stunning painting by Sarah Martell ( and is simply titled ‘Bass Clef’.
