larryLarry Is Improving After Suffering A Stroke

Please accept our apologies for not updating you sooner on Larry Miller’s situation.

After more than three months, Larry is now out of hospital and progressing. He is some way from coming back to the stage but he aims to make a return by summer 2016.  It is very difficult to predict the time scale of recovery from a stroke and to what extent anyone does recover, each case is different.  Larry’s progress has  taken time and this was to be expected. There has not been a lot to say except Larry’s been improving. He has now begun to pick up the guitar and although he is finding it a little difficult coordinating his right hand with the left, this will improve in time. He has the determination to be back and has been encouraged by so many good wishes via email and social media and by the amount of post he has received including presents. Larry  wants to thank everyone for their kindness.

Larry Miller Fundraiser

Friday 15th January 2015

at The Stables, Wavendon, near Milton Keynes

The majority of Larry’s income comes from playing live gigs and to help out Larry financially, we have organised a fundraising gig at The Stables near Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire on Friday 15th January 2016 featuring Larry’s band plus special guest which include ex Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden, Stray’s Del Bromham and Oli Brown. They will be playing songs from three guitarists that influenced Larry i.e Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix and Gary Moore. Many of you have already got tickets but if you want to go and support Larry, hurry as there are now less than 100 tickets available out of originally 400. To buy tickets call as soon as you can the box office: 01908 280800  or online: http://www.stables.org/Whats_on/Event/Larry_Miller_20160115

If you can’t go to the gig, you can still help Larry by purchasing Larry’s CDs and T Shirts. There maybe some of Larry’s CDs you haven’t got or you may want to buy for friends and family for Christmas.

We have been inundated with T Shirt orders and unfortunately some sizes are out of stock. However, we are ordering more this week. So if you want one or any CDs, go to: http://www.larrymiller.co.uk/shop.htm

Please accept our apologies for those still waiting for their T Shirt, but they will be dispatched as soon as we have new stock.

Please send any messages to Larry via email info@rockingtheblues.com or via Facebook. We will ensure they are communicated to Larry appropriately.

If anyone wants to still send a card to Larry Miller by post, please send it to Derek White at RTB Music Agency, 46, Brook Street, Aston Clinton, Aylesbury, Bucks HP22 5ES.

Returning to the Crosskeys Hotel

For a long time I was a member of the Islwyn Acoustic Guitar Club, we met once a month and usually had a guest artist as well as an open mic session. For most of the club’s lifespan it was hosted at the Crosskeys hotel near Risca.

The Tim Crahart Blues Band played at the club several times, always a great night.

The pub has been shut down for the last couple of years, but it has recently been bought up by a friend of ours and is due to reopen this Saturday night, 31st October and we’re pleased to say that we will be playing a live set for the opening night.

We’ll be kicking off around 8:30pm for a night of blues, gospel, rock and soul. Come along if you can, I’ll buy you a pint!

Cardiff Gig – Ten Feet Tall

A bit short notice, but we are playing in Cardiff this Monday, 5th October. It’s at Ten Feet Tall in Church Street in the Town Centre.

There are two other bands playing, Dora’s Fur and Tony Hands. We are the headline act, playing at 9:30

£3.30 admission.

Here are Tim’s liner notes, to give you a taste of what to expect:

Some songs you write; some songs you’re given. ‘Blues Like a Prayer’ is a song that came to me at a time when I needed a miracle and I feel it was a gift from God. The lyrics and melody came first and only afterwards did I realise I’d written a song in waltz time with a minor V chord in the chorus – very unlike me. As soon as it was finished I knew it would be the title track. I also knew it would be fantastic to have a Gospel choir singing on it and, thanks to our friends at God’s House International Centre in Bristol, that became a reality.

As with the first two CDs, this is once again a mixture of originals and re-packaged traditional Gospel Blues songs. We have ‘Jesus on the Mainline’, Blind Willie Johnson’s ‘Soul of a Man’ and ‘Motherless Children’ and a mash-up of Rev Gary Davis’ ‘Great Change’ and ‘Steppin’ Out’, as famously covered by Eric Clapton & John Mayall on the Beano album.

The originals include ‘God Meant it For Good’ a retelling of the story of Joseph complete with a Wah-Wah drenched riff, and the swinging ‘Good Woman Blues’ with lyrics from Andy, by way of Proverbs 31. ‘When You Fall’ and ‘Squeaky Clean’ were two songs I’d written some time ago and forgotten about. Fortunately, I rediscovered them in time to make it onto the CD. Finally, the Gary Moore influenced ‘Lady Gets the Blues’ is for Deb, my wife and my inspiration. ENJOY!
